How many companies are in the area, and which are the biggest? Here's how to size up a place from the public register.
The map plots every active company by its registered office: 3,575,604 across 120 areas, filtered by industry or status, with the busiest areas listed beside it.
Every town has its own page. Leeds has 48,136 active companies with their registered office there, 7,271 of them incorporated in the last twelve months. A registered office is not always where a company trades, and the page says so.
The largest companies are ranked by net assets from their latest accounts, with employees where the accounts give them.
The most common industries, by standard industry code, show what the local economy does.
And the newest companies in the town are listed too, so you can meet them early.
