What happens if a payment fails

You keep your paid plan for 14 days while Stripe retries the payment. Update your card or confirm the payment with your bank to fix it. Nothing is deleted.

Most failed payments are caused by an expired or replaced card, a bank's fraud check, or a payment that needs you to confirm it in your banking app.

What we do

  1. We try again. Our payment provider, Stripe, retries the payment automatically over about two weeks.
  2. We email you each time it fails, with a link to update your card or, if your bank needs it, to confirm the payment.

Your billing page shows Payment due while the payment is outstanding.

What you keep

You keep your paid plan, with all its limits and features, for 14 days from the start of the unpaid period.

If the payment still has not gone through after 14 days, that product moves to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted: your account, lists, watchlist and API keys stay, with Free plan limits. As soon as the payment is made, your paid plan comes back automatically.

If Stripe's retries end without a successful payment, the subscription is cancelled. You do not owe us anything for the unpaid period. We do not charge interest or fees for a failed payment. To subscribe again, choose a plan on the pricing page.

How to fix it

  • Update your card. On your billing page, click Card, invoices & receipts and add the new card. See Change your card or billing details.
  • Pay straight away. In the Invoices section of your billing page, click Pay now next to the unpaid invoice. This opens Stripe's secure payment page.
  • Confirm the payment. If your bank asked you to approve it, use the button in our email. A new card will not help in that case.

If something looks wrong, raise a request at Support. We can see why a payment failed and tell you what your bank said.

A failed upgrade

If an upgrade payment fails or needs confirming, your plan does not change until it is paid. You never lose the plan you already have.
